The Channel Strip Collection provides two new channel strip plug-ins with preamp, compressor, and EQ that let you add a distinctive character to your tracks and mixes.
The RC 500 plug-in models the company’s popular RC 500 channel strip, which includes a low-distortion, high-gain, solid-state Class A preamplifier; custom-designed FET compressor; and custom semi-parametric EQ. PreSonus’ VT1 plug-in includes a modeled high-end tube preamp, along with the compressor and EQ. The compressor and EQ for both plug-ins have been engineered to deliver musically tasteful results, even at extreme settings. In this, they differ from more analytical-sounding plug-ins designed purely based on physical aspects.
Realism of State Space Modeling
The RC500 and VT1 were realized through State Space Modeling, a proprietary, sophisticated, and groundbreaking physical modeling technique developed by PreSonus. The State Space approach analyzes a complete system schematic and recognizes the circuit as a set of discrete differential equations. The involved nonlinear circuit elements are modeled meticulously down to the component level in order to include all those "dirt-effects" that make the analog original sound so good, such as bias shifts, time dependencies, and saturation. The resulting DSP code is then CPU-optimized for maximum efficiency while taking advantage of Studio One’s superior sound quality. This progressive technique enables the creation of perfect virtual models of complex audio hardware.

Bus-Driver is an optical compressor that provides a wide range of compression effects, reminiscent of the best vintage compressors made in the ‘60s.
Compression is one of those studio processes that is all too often taken for granted and not usually used to its full potential. Today’s producers think nothing of inserting compressors on every single channel of their DAW when mixing, but old school engineers had to learn to make the most of only a few units of compression and this made them learn them inside out to use them to their best advantage. Bus Driver is modelled on the classics from the 'golden age' of tube compressors.
Also included in Bus Driver is a Tube-Driver Saturation feature. It allows you to add the sound of a vintage tube amplifier giving you the differing electronic characteristics of triode, tetrode, and pentode vacuum tubes. So you can add the vintage warmth of the those models of the classic tubes (e.g. ECC83, 12AX7, etc..) to your tracks or on your mix bus.
Nomad Factory designed an Output Stage Soft-Clipping to eliminate digital clipping at any output level and produce a smoother distortion characteristic. This feature is in addition to the Tube-Driver Saturation Modeling included in Bus-Driver.

The FG-N is a digital recreation of one of the most classic discrete Class A British equalizers from the 70's. All aspects of the circuit are modeled, including the rich harmonics and saturations that naturally occur when the equalizer is in use. The original model only contained one mid band, so we thought it would be nice to double it so that it has two mid bands. This equalizer is lush, fat, and bold. It sounds great on everything from drums to vocals, and can even add the perfect saturation to synth and electronic tracks.
The FG-S is a digital recreation of one of the most famous British console equalizers from the 80's. This equalizer also has rich harmonics and interactive mid bands with a fat musical tone. This is the ultimate workhorse mix eq that can be used on any track. It is great for surgical cutting strokes, or wide bell and shelf strokes for making drums and guitars punch out of the speakers.
The FG-116 is the most precise digital replication of the classic American FET limiter. No expense was spared to capture every nuance of this classic sounding compressor/limiter. From its trademark timing characteristics to the extremely musical sound of its transformer, the FG-116 will give engineers the musical and fat tone that has made the hardware so famous. The FG-116 sounds great on everything like lead vocals, drums, and bass guitars.
The FG-401 started as a recreation of the classic british console channel compressor, but morphed into quite a lot more. First, we gave it variable attack and release with increased range which added more tonal options. But then, we added an optimal transformer inout, and not just any transformer, the famous transformer from the British Class A Console! This adds a beautiful warmth and sheen to the compressor. Last, we added an entirely unique second circuit path that provides and additional smooth and rich tone. The FG-401 is perhaps the most versatile mix compressor in the world that can sound good on any source you feed into it.
Unlike so many 'analog modeled' equalizer plugins and compressors that simply recreate analog equalization and compression curves, the VMR models every nuance of the circuit paths and recreates all of the essential harmonics, saturations, phase, and interactivity that give the units their trademark tone.

Tube Saturator is the world’s most accurate real time tube amp plug-in. Unlike other tube simulators, which use radically simplified models, Tube Saturator uses state of the art circuit simulation technology to capture every nuance of an analog circuit. With circuit simulation, the analog schematic (consisting of the individual resistors, capacitors, tubes, and so on) completely defines the signal processing. The schematic is converted into a system of non-linear differential equations which is solved at each sampling period, in realtime. That’s mathematical talk for "it sounds exactly like the analog circuit”.
The circuit simulation technology is extremely CPU intensive, and hence we are only able to simulate very simple circuits at this time. A fast computer is highly recommended to run the plug-in. Tube Saturator is in fact a basic circuit consisting of a Baxandall type three-band EQ feeding two 12AX7 triode preamp stages. It’s similar to preamp stages you’d find in a guitar amp, but it is by no means a complete guitar amplifier model— that would be way too expensive to simulate even with today’s fast CPUs. However, it is extremely accurate, and hence you can get the same distortion and tonal characteristics that you’d expect from a real tube preamp.
Use Tube Saturator to add a bit of analog warmth to recordings, or increase the drive for some distortion. You can use it as a saturating peak limiter too.
Increasing the Drive control increases the (digital) input gain while decreasing the (digital) output gain, so you can easily adjust distortion levels. The FAT switch changes the bias circuit of the first preamp stage to increase gain.
