We are proud to present our sampled pipe organ, a magnificent huge church organ where you can virtually pull out the stops in the interface, choosing between a fantastic selection of stops, combinations and tuttis. Ranges of each stop will be shown on the keyboard when activated, pedals low, and manuals higher, plus optional octave extention controls, just like on a real organ. There is also the option to reduce/extend the length of the release samples, depending on whether you want that huge grand organ sound in a large space, or a cleaner more crisp and defined sound.
We chose to also sample some optional combinations and tutti sounds, as well as individual stops, due to the fact that the way sound interacts and moves around in a room when the stops are pulled out together, is not faithfully enough replicated when individually sampled and layered digitally.
The church organ sampled here contains 2GB of magnificently engineered sound, by a top class organ, and was recorded at 96KHz, 24Bit. The stops and sounds available are listed below.

Back In Time Records Korg Universe Vol 1 AKAI SCD-AMPLiFYiSO
Korg Universe Volume 1 is from the German company Back in Time Records who specialise in the production of sample CD's of older classic synths, we have also reviewed Minimoog Classics and Korg Universe Volume 2. Korg Universe 1 is the companion volume to Volume 2 and covers the sounds produced from 17 Korg synthesisers and drum machines, from classic mono synths like the 700S to the Wavestation AD. There is no duplication with Volume 2 and I'd find it hard to think of anything produced by Korg in the 1970-91 period that isn't covered by one of these sample CD's.
he synthesisers and drum machines have been accurately recorded with no additional sonic processing. In this volume there are over 1500 individual samples, however to facilitate the the accurate representation of the sounds of these machines there is extensive use of multi-sampling. Therefore there are fewer unique sounds than otherwise may appear at first sight. The advantage of multisamples is that it enables a wider, more accurate rendition of the actual sounds across a wider audio range than just a single sample would do. A single sample played a couple of octaves away from its sampling point can often sound nothing like the original sound would have done at the same point. As this is a CD-ROM release the inconvenience of multi-sampling is removed and the added sonic accuracy produces a more playable range of notes from each sound.
As an added bonus the package comes with a floppy disk of data for the Korg Trinity workstation with some 150 program, combination and effects templates. Unfortunately I didn't have access to a Trinity to test these but no doubt adds to the value somewhat if you own one.
Like other Back in Time products the presentation is excellent. You get a little booklet, here it runs to 36 pages and quite excellent. The samples are broken down by partition and then by "phase" or program and then further broken down into each individual program. The phases run to a maximum of 8Mb. Each sound is listed out then with its memory requirement. Additionally though as a nice touch is some background information and the odd photo of the machine being sampled.
There is also a page or two of additional user information, mostly about the Trinity disk, but also about key ranges and so forth.

Here's your new sandbox full of toys! 88 instruments are waiting for you inside the main Kontakt patch. All samples have been recorded very close with high-end equipment (Nagra LB, KM185, Blue Dragonfly, AT4050, Rode NT4) in high definition (88.2kHz 24bit) in dry rooms.
Every sample is 'alive' and dynamic due to 10 random robins for every recording! Our GUI gives you access to a lot of transformations and modulations, all based on velocity. You can set filters, pitch, stereo effects and panning, ADSR envelope, play in reverse, offset and volume sound by sound.
You can choose to use random robins or not. Moreover, we added some great global effects on a second tab with a transient designer, EQ, flanger, chorus, phaser, tape saturator, lo-fi (bit crusher) and reverb.

Forgotten Keys FK15 Bentley Rhythm Ace FR-3 V.4.2 KONTAKT
All the names dotted about on the front panel and serial plate of this early analogue drum machine denote it as: Ace-Tone, Bentley, Rhythm Ace Full-Auto FR-3. Quite a mouthful! I’m going to stick with FR-3 from now on. The FR-3 was a very similar looking machine to the Korg Mini-Pops 3 in that it had the usual range of preset rhythms plus a selector knob that assigned variations to the left most rhythm button, 2 buttons in this case. Being an early machine, inductor coils or tuned tanks are used to create the drum sounds. Some of the individual sounds can only be isolated for sampling by messing around inside the machine, which is often the case.
The drum machine used for this project was very kindly lent to me by Steve at SynthMagic. He had just had it serviced so it worked perfectly and sounded very clean. Check out his site if you haven’t already.
There are 8 sounds available on the FR-3 and they have all been isolated and sampled 8 times for the FK15. Unusually, the sounds are accented on certain beats. This is rarely seen on older machines and improves the rhythms considerably, especially the latin variety. The various accent levels have been sampled as well (8 times each) for all sounds that use it, making the rhythms very accurate to the original. When playing the sounds from your keyboard or DAW sequencer, these accent levels are assigned to velocity.
All the preset rhythms including the 2-beat and 4-beat variations have been re-produced for Kontakt. Rather than playing back sampled loops of the rhythms, the individual sampled sounds are triggered as and when needed. This is essentially how a real drum machine works except that the diode matrix has been replaced with Kontakt scripting and the sound generator circuit has been replaced with samples of said sound generator circuit.
The balance control of the FK15 adjusts the balance between the drum and cymbal sounds when playing one of the in-built rhythms. Far more control is to be had however by way of the Setup tab.
The Setup tab offers greater control over how the FK15 sounds and operates. There are volume, pan, tune and mute controls for each sound. Incoming MIDI notes can be mapped to any rhythm or sound and outgoing sounds can be assigned to any available Kontakt output. Random tune and volume controls add a little human element to the sounds.
