Modwheel The Lowdown KONTAKT
Modwheel The Lowdown KONTAKT
It’s a Beautiful 100 year old Double Bass owned and played by Bass luminary David Donaldson for the past 35 years, which has been deeply sampled by MODWHEEL to create a Kontakt sample library made up of every conceivable sound you can generate using bows, mallets, chopsticks, brushes, and anything else that came to hand (or foot).

The original concept for the LOWDOWN was to detune the Bass to a low G, 8 semitones lower than its normal low E and record over a minute of low drones on each note over a range of 3 octaves. We then recorded bowed harmonics playing the same notes that can be layered on using a keyboard mod wheel.

The result is a huge variety of rich organically moving drones and pads, that are all at least a minute long performance before looping, from very natural to very messed with.

After achieving this aural triumph, we decided to extend the library to include traditional pizzicato and arco articulations and some more experimental rhythms and impacts. The rhythms are all BPM’d and will play at whatever tempo your session is at.

MODWHEEL’s David Donaldson - "I’ve owned and played this Bass for over 35 years. It has a very distinctive sound, and can generate beautiful harmonics when bowed. It also has a great low sound when detuned".

What do you get?

The library is divided into 2 Parts.

Part 1 - The BaSsics

PIZZ BASS - Multi sampled with 4 velocity layers, 3 round robins.
keyswitched articulations: Sustain, Short, Semitone Slide, 5th Slides & Harmonics.
Immediate access to Separate Mic & DI/Line level controls via custom GUI.

ARCO BASS - Multi sampled bowed with 3 dynamic layers controlled by the mod wheel.
Keyswitching for Staccato and Expressive

Part 2 - The Extended BaSs

AMBIENCES - 22 patches of drones and pads, from organic to electronic.
Most have layering that can be added, or manipulated using the mod wheel, as well as individual effects.

IMPACTS - 13 patches including "drumkits” made entirely from Bass sounds.
Single events that include the use of mallets, brushes, slapping, chopsticks on every part of the Bass.

RHYTHMS - 22 patches of rhythmic playing.
From live performances to sequencing using Kontakt’s arpeggiator and drum sequencing functions.

ModWheel Biscuit Tin Guitar KONTAKT ModWheel Biscuit Tin Guitar KONTAKT
The instrument that MODWHEEL has sampled for their Biscuit Tin Guitar library is a one off, hand crafted by Steve Roche. Steve has been making tin guitars and other odd instruments for many years for use in his soundtrack work with Plan 9 and live with the bands he performs with.

This particular instrument is a 4 string fretless with open G Banjo tuning (D G B D). For sampling purposes the range of the instrument has been extended down to the E below the D of its natural range.

The instrument is fitted with a pickup and was recorded both acoustically as well as through a vintage Fender Twin Reverb amp.

As an acoustic instrument the Biscuit Tin Guitar has a wonderfully unique sound that is caught somewhere between a Dobro and a Banjo. The electric version can sit anywhere between clean and a tin can being dragged behind a car, depending on your taste.

What You Get

35 Kontakt patches both acoustic and electric, with finger and plectrum Performance. Keyswitches operate the different note options i.e. Long, Short, Mute, Semitone Slide Up and Hammer Off. There is also dynamic keyswitching to aid performance with several velocity layers and at least 3 round robins. An FX panel on each patch gives the ability to adjust the sound to further suit your requirements.

The instrument has also been used for its percussive possibilities and there are several percussion kits and BPM'd rhythm patches.

In addition there are a number of patches that play arpeggios and song patterns from a single key.
Modwheel The BENDS KONTAKT Modwheel The BENDS KONTAKT
THE BENDS is the second release in the Creative Differences series, a percussion instrument library that focuses on quality, organic percussion sounds recorded and designed for the Kontakt user.

Following in the footsteps of HUMDRUM it features a collection of all things metal - gongs, cymbals, gamelan, triangles, and miscellaneous household items, struck, scraped and bowed while being immersed in water.

THE BENDS Highlights:

30 patches of otherworldly pitch bends, underwater rhythms and hits make for a very evocative library for the adventurous music creator.

750 samples (up to a minute long) recorded at 24-96 kHz with contact and stereo microphones.

Each patch allows for much manipulation with pitch, echo, reverb, shaping, arpeggiator and stutter key.

Rhythmic patches are bpm'd.

Most patches have velocity sensitivity assigned to the mod wheel. This gives even more flexibility in shaping rhythms when ARP (arpeggiator) is switched on.

Features:

An array of metal gongs, cymbals & plates played while being immersed in water.

24bit 96kHz Multisamples (750 samples)

1.4GB Core Library (0.7GB via lossless compression)

Note: Requires Full Version Kontakt 5.3.1 or higher

A Unique Bowed Glockenspiel Sample Library KONTAKT A Unique Bowed Glockenspiel Sample Library KONTAKT
The Rosinspiel is a glockenspiel that has been played with a bow instead of a mallet.

It has a very unique soft, glassy like sound and its an incredibly unusual sample library – perfect for orchestral and underscore music.

The Rosinspiel is glockenspiel played with a bow instead of being struck with a mallet. The result is an unusual, silky sounding instrument with an almost ethereal string like sound.

The staccato samples sound like a celeste with a softer attack, while the sustains sound like a glass armonica with slight bow noise. The samples are tuned to match OrchestralTools’ The Glock.

Recorded with a close mic in 24 bit Mono

The Rosinspiel was close mic’d and recorded in mono as 24bit WAVs. Each sampled sustain is held for 8 seconds or longer with three dynamics recorded for each sustain. Crossfading is controllable via the mod wheel. – The physical instrument’s range is from G3-C6. The virtual instrument’s range is C3-C6.

In total there are 99 sustain samples with 3 velocity layers and 1xRR and 155 staccato samples with 1 velocity layer and 5XRR. It comes with 3 patches – bowed sustain, bowed sustain loop (credit to Park Bench) and staccato.
