Why use sticks when you can use ping pong balls?
Pong Glockenspiel is a Kontakt Instrument made by recording a toy glockenspiel played with ping pong balls. Two velocity layers (hard and soft) are cross faded to have a smooth transition while the 3 round robin (repetitions samples) avoid the "machine gun” effect of sampled instruments. There are also included two ambient instruments, two synth pad instruments and two slowed down instruments crafted using the original samples.

Wood is an organic material, found in plants, and used for many purposes such as making musical instruments. Many wooden instruments are idiophones, instruments where the vibration of the material itself is the main source of the sound. Following this concept, Wood is a sample library made by sampling hits, collision or effects with wooden tools (sticks, claves, boards, drums, castanets, bowls and so on). The samples are then processed into different instruments ranging from tuned/untuned percussions, drum kits, hits/noises to sound textures and sound effects. Wood features 17 instruments and 4 multis using 278 stereo samples with many round robin and velocity layers. Four standard effects are accessible from the custom performance view: Saturation, Rotator, Delay and Reverb.

Soundscapes, textures and ambiences ready to use as Kontakt instruments or WAV loops. These sounds are divided in two main categories: concrete and gear. The raw concrete samples were recorded in different places across Europe (Paris, Dublin, London and Naples) using studio or handy equipment. The raw gear samples were recorded from hardware synthesizers like a Custom Eurorack Modular Synth, guitar pedals and noisy toys like the Thingamagoop 2. Everything was then processed and boxed inside a Kontakt instrument with a custom performance view. The pitch bend is assigned to a ±24 pitch transpose, good for glitch effects. All samples are perfect loops, so if you don’t have Kontakt you can load them directly.

A Unique Bowed Glockenspiel Sample Library KONTAKT A Unique Bowed Glockenspiel Sample Library KONTAKT
The Rosinspiel is a glockenspiel that has been played with a bow instead of a mallet.

It has a very unique soft, glassy like sound and its an incredibly unusual sample library – perfect for orchestral and underscore music.

The Rosinspiel is glockenspiel played with a bow instead of being struck with a mallet. The result is an unusual, silky sounding instrument with an almost ethereal string like sound.

The staccato samples sound like a celeste with a softer attack, while the sustains sound like a glass armonica with slight bow noise. The samples are tuned to match OrchestralTools’ The Glock.

Recorded with a close mic in 24 bit Mono

The Rosinspiel was close mic’d and recorded in mono as 24bit WAVs. Each sampled sustain is held for 8 seconds or longer with three dynamics recorded for each sustain. Crossfading is controllable via the mod wheel. – The physical instrument’s range is from G3-C6. The virtual instrument’s range is C3-C6.

In total there are 99 sustain samples with 3 velocity layers and 1xRR and 155 staccato samples with 1 velocity layer and 5XRR. It comes with 3 patches – bowed sustain, bowed sustain loop (credit to Park Bench) and staccato.
Glockenspiel with a Raw and Colourful Sound KONTAKT Glockenspiel with a Raw and Colourful Sound KONTAKT
Jonathan’s Glockenspiel was created by composer and sound designer Jonathan Howe.

It consists of 1 and a half octaves and features 7 sampled velocity layers for each note. Naturally it can play in the keys of C, G and F but some samples have been stretched to give you the full chromatic scale and make it a little more versatile. These have been colored red on the keyboard so you know when you are using stretched samples.

Additionally, below the playing range you#ll find some samples of dropping the mallet which you can use for some additional realism, which brings the instrument up to 101 individual samples in total!

It also has a simple reverb on/off switch, a knob reverb size, a humanizing function which you can use to randomly detune the keys and a simple 3-Band EQ.

Last but not least the library also includes a sound design patch which uses the glockenspiel samples and transforms it into a pad-like sound.

Tonehammer Alien Drum Vol.1 KONTAKT DVDR-DYNAMiCS Tonehammer Alien Drum Vol.1 KONTAKT DVDR-DYNAMiCS
The Alien Drum (aka Hang Drum – trademarked by Pan Art) is a unique tone based percussion instrument, which is almost impossible to come by, since there is only one maker in the world and less than 1000 drums in circulation. The instrument has a soft, sorrowful, melancholic tone to it and is a perfect companion for emotional or ambient type of scores. The Tonehammer Alien Drum is unique in the sense it was recorded at an average of 15 velocity layers and with 10 round-robin repetitions pr. layer/note, so you will never experience any repetition in the articulation.

We used custom microphone set-ups to capture the delicate resonance both inside and outside the drum, since the resonance defines the true sound of the drum. Additionally we sampled multiple playing techniques with fingers, palm, slaps, hand brushing and the back-side of the drum, which has the similar properties to the Udu. Multiple versions of all multis allow for a variety of ways to switch or fade between articulations while playing.

Tonehammer Alien Drum Facts:
Single finger tap on all 8 notes (including ding): 12 – 20 velocity layers, 10x round-robin
Single finger mute on all 8 notes (including ding): 12 – 20 velocity layers, 10x round-robin
Fingertip ping on all 8 notes (including ding): 12 – 20 velocity layers, 10x round-robin
Palm slap on all 8 notes (including ding): 12 – 20 velocity layers, 10x round-robin
Sound Hole thumps: 12 velocity layers each, 10x round-robin
Sound Hole edge pings: 8 velocity layers each, 10x round-robin
Hand Brushes included in finger tap patches: 3 styles, 5-9 velocity layers each, 10x round-robin
Articulation switching multis (sustain pedal, cc22, midi channel or modwheel fading/switching)

Tonehammer Waterphone KONTAKT DVDR-DYNAMiCS Tonehammer Waterphone KONTAKT DVDR-DYNAMiCS
We decided to sample this instrument deeper and more creatively then ever before in the history of samples. The best current water phone libraries contains approx. 180-200 samples, which is less then 1/15 of the Tonehammer Waterphone, which contains a mighty 2,903 samples recorded with a variety of bows, a huge set of mallets, metal devices, hands and other contraptions.

The library also contains a variety of more experimental patches, including boiled water at four different temperature levels, hydrophone recordings (underwater microphones in the waterphone), magnets on waterphone tines and filling waterphone with metal nails and other goodies. The sample library simply covers all thinkable and unthinkable type of articulations and we can proudly state we sampled the living soul out of the waterphone. All playable mallet programs contains our standard 10 velocity layer - 10 round robin for maximum playability. In addition Waterphone contains a bonus set of waterphone ambiences (note: Kontakt 3 only) made by Steven Tavaglione (Instrumentalist and Sound Designer; Wall-E, American Beauty, CSI, Supernatural and 100s other movies/shows/games).
